The China Marine Economic Development Index 2026, released by the Ministry of Natural Resources on June 10, shows that China’s Marine Economic Development Index stood at 128.8 last year, up 2.2% year on year, indicating that the marine economy is developing toward new and improved quality.

The China Marine Economic Development Index is a comprehensive quantitative assessment of China’s marine economic development over a given period. It covers major areas such as development scale and efficiency, structural optimization and upgrading, resource conservation and utilization, foreign economy and trade, and livelihood security and improvement. The index uses 2015 as the base period, with a base value of 100.

According to the China Marine Economic Development Index 2026, last year China’s marine industrial structure was further optimized and its scientific and technological innovation capacity continued to strengthen. The Structural Optimization and Upgrading Index was 133.8, up 2.2% year on year.

Last year, the capacity for the development and utilization of marine resources continued to improve, and the level of conservation and intensive utilization of resources steadily rose. The Marine Resource Conservation and Utilization Index was 125.9, up 1.9% year on year.

Last year, the marine ecological environment continued to improve, and livelihood security and improvement were effective and robust. The Livelihood Security and Improvement Index was 132.0, up 3.7% year on year.
