The Shandong Society for Oceanology and Limnology was founded in 1979. It is supervised by the Shandong Association for Science and Technology and is hosted by Ocean University of China. The Society’s office is located at the Yushan Campus of Ocean University of China (No. 5 Yushan Road, Qingdao City, Postal Code: 266003).

The Society’s main activities include scientific research, academic conferences, professional training, environmental assessments, research evaluation, consulting services, and journal publishing.

Upon its establishment, the Society launched the academic journal Bulletin of Oceanology and Limnology. Prior to 2016, the journal was published quarterly (4 issues per year). Following official approval, it transitioned to a bimonthly publication schedule in 2016, now issuing 6 issues annually. To date, the journal has published 44 volumes and 187 issues.

Bulletin of Oceanology and Limnology is recognized as a “Core Journal of Natural Sciences in China,” a “Peking University Library Core Journal,” and a source journal in the “Chinese Science Citation Database (CSCD).” The journal primarily publishes theoretical research and scientific achievements in oceanology and limnology, covering topics such as ocean-atmosphere interactions, marine biology and aquaculture, ecology and environment, engineering and technology, and marine management. Its main sections include research articles, research reports, review papers, and marine policy and management studies.
