The "2025 China Ocean Economic Development Index" released by the Ministry of Natural Resources in Hainan shows that China's gross ocean product exceeded 10 trillion yuan for the first time last year, representing a year-on-year growth of 5.9%.
The "2025 China Ocean Economic Development Index" is a comprehensive quantitative assessment of China's ocean economic development in 2024. The index reached 125.2 in 2024, reflecting a 2.3% increase compared to the previous year.
In 2024, the ocean economy reached new heights, with development efficiency recovering positively. The national gross ocean product surpassed 10 trillion yuan for the first time, growing by 5.9% year-on-year, which is 0.9 percentage points higher than the national economic growth rate.
The value added of emerging marine industries increased by 7.2% year-on-year in 2024, continuously rising as a proportion of the ocean economy. The value added of the marine manufacturing sector reached 3.2 trillion yuan, accounting for over 30% of the gross ocean product. Industries such as marine fisheries, offshore oil and gas, shipbuilding, and marine engineering equipment manufacturing accelerated their transformation and upgrading toward digitalization, intelligentization, and high-end development.
