Recently, our university has successfully completed the application process to establish a sub-discipline doctoral program in "Marine Economics" under the first-level discipline of Applied Economics. With the support of the Institute of Marine Economics and Management, the proposed doctoral and master's programs in this sub-discipline have officially received approval and accreditation from the Ministry of Education.

The establishment of these programs represents a significant step in our university's ongoing efforts to optimize its disciplinary structure and enhance the development of Applied Economics. It also marks a new achievement for the Institute in advancing the field of marine economics.

The introduction of these programs aligns with major national strategies such as "Building a Strong Maritime Nation, Integrated Land-Sea Development, the Belt and Road Initiative, and Strengthening Provincial Maritime Capacity." Focusing on critical scientific themes, including "Global Ocean Governance and a Maritime Community with a Shared Future," the programs aim to explore the dynamics of marine economic productivity, production relations, and development patterns. They are designed to cultivate high-level, interdisciplinary talent capable of contributing to innovative work and independent research in areas such as marine economics and management, sustainable marine development, climate change, and global ocean governance. This initiative will provide substantial talent support and intellectual resources for national efforts in maritime development, integrated land-sea planning, global ocean governance, and the Belt and Road Initiative.

Leveraging the establishment of these programs, the Institute will further optimize its talent training system, integrate high-quality research resources, strengthen faculty development, and deepen teaching and research reforms. By fostering interdisciplinary academic exchange platforms, the Institute will encourage faculty and students to engage in forward-looking, cross-cutting research, expand their international perspectives, and continuously improve the quality of talent training and innovation capabilities. Additionally, the Institute will enhance collaboration and exchange with leading maritime institutions, research organizations, and industry enterprises worldwide. By incorporating advanced ideas and high-quality resources, it will refine the training system for master's and doctoral students in marine economics, striving to build a leading center for marine economics and management research and contribute to the growth and development of this discipline in China.
